The Culkin Rest Area on I-35 near Mahtowa is expected to reopen Thursday, Sept. 25, barring any unexpected construction delays. The rest area has been undergoing major renovation work.

The renovation, which began in June, included the removal and replacement of all electrical wiring, new tile and fixtures and accessibility improvements. Outdoor improvements included a new picnic shelter, new picnic table tops and all new playground equipment. A walking trail through the rest area property was also improved.
