The excessively cold temperatures have brought about a temporary closure of one of Duluth's favorite outdoor destinations.  Officials with the City of Duluth Parks and Recreating Division has temporarily closed the Bayfront Family Center and ice rink located in Bayfront Park today, January due to the sub-zero temperatures and high winds which are causing even colder wind chill temperatures.

At this point, the city anticipates opening the Family Center and the ice rink this weekend, but that determination will be dictated by the weather.  The forecast for this weekend is more of the same weather pattern.

The City of Duluth reminds residents that the Bayfront Family Center is typically staffed 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturdays and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sundays. During open hours, the public is welcome to explore the free winter recreation equipment being offered. The Center is also a warming house for ice skaters and offers restrooms and concessions.
