The Cloquet Police Department is warning citizens of a potential scam involving payment for displaying advertisements on their vehicles.

The scam uses a common tactic of sending the victim a check for more than the amount for some predetermined event or item. In this case, the victim was told they would be paid to display Monster Energy Drink advertisements on their car. They later received a fraudulent check for more than the price they were told they would be paid for advertising the product, which they were told to send back the extra money.

The scam works when the victim cashes the check and sends the extra money back before they discover the check is fraudulent. Their bank then holds them responsible for the amount of the original check and the fraudster makes off with your cash!

If you have information about this case, you're asked to contact the police.
