If you are wondering why the Aerial Lift Bridge and Enger Tower are colored teal this month, September 17 and 18th, it's for Charlene’s Lights, a Foundation for Ovarian Cancer. As usual it will make the Bridge and Tower take on a different feel.

As beautiful as it will be it is mostly meant to call attention to Ovarian Cancer, a Cancer that many people still don't understand. Nowadays, everyone knows someone or has a relative or loved one who has been taken by cancer. So, Charlene's Light, a non-profit organization is hoping their mission stands tall when you see the color and hear the term, "Turn Duluth Teal". The Mission of Charlene’s Light is as follows:

Educate women and the community about symptoms of ovarian cancer

Raise money for ovarian cancer research

Provide support and hope for patients and families

This is the third year of this event that will help raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer which is a silent and often deadly type of cancer. All proceeds from the events will be used for research, patient support an education in Minnesota.

Charlene's Light invites you to one of the following events:

On the 19th there will be a gala dinner at the DECC.  There will be an incredible silent auction in conjunction with the dinner.  This is where you’ll have a chance to bid on a 2016 Ryder Cup Golf Tournament Package! That’s right, you could attend the famous Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chanhassen, MN next fall!  How cool is that? There will also be tickets to a Minnesota Twins ballgame, Minnesota Orchestra concert, and the Chanhassen Dinner Theater and a whole lot more.  Want to go?  It’s easy to sign up on the website.  There is also information about sponsoring a golf hole in the memory of a loved one on the website.

Other events leading up to the lighting and gala dinner are:
