It looks like an early fall, at least around my home, and that led me to wonder about the approaching winter season. I spoke with a meterologist, and asked. The response was basically it's a fight between El Nino and El Nina. Whoever wins, determines the winter weather.
Quite a storm ripped through parts of Lake Nebagamon one week ago. It seemed that homes along the water suffered the most damage to their property, although trees and damge were reported throughout the village.
Around 1:45 a.m. this morning I awoke to the sound not unlike that of a train heading directly towards our home. I looked out the window to see debris flying through the air, and heavy rain. It lasted about ten to fifteen minutes, then started to quiet down, so I went back to bed.
I think we've all been there; At one point we've all gotten into a vehicle that's been sitting outside all day in the hot summer sun. Not only are the temperatures in an extremely hot car uncomfortable, but they can also be dangerous to our health. This is especially true for children who might not realize the dangers on their own - or - who are left to sit in a vehicle.
There are probably a lot of people from outside the Northland who don't understand just how hot it can get here in the summertime. Granted, we don't have extremely long stretches of hot weather - but when we do get warmer temperatures it can easily approach 100 degrees or more.
The Northland is getting ready to experience one of those hot stretches of weather that happen once or twice a summer. Living in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin it seems that we're better prepared to handle extremely cold temperatures with good humor; When the thermometer stretches to its upper reaches, we don't seem to know what to do to stay cool.
