American swimmer Michael Phelps became the most decorated athlete in Olympic history Tuesday, while the United States and China remained tied atop the overall medal count of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Here’s a recap of the day’s Olympic action:

We are a few days into the 2012 London Olympics, and unlike in 2008, Michael Phelps is not the big swimming news.

July 23, 2012 Chastising Penn State for “hero worship” and a warped athletic culture, NCAAPresident Mark Emmert issued a landmark ruling Monday morning, levying unprecedented penalties against the Penn State football program that will cripple its ability to remain competitive on the field for years.
According to USA Today, Emmert banned Penn State from bowl games for four years, imposed massive scholarship reductions (a total of 40 initial scholarships lost over four years) and fined the school $60 million.

July 18, 2012 Although athletes really don't go for the gold because of the monetary value, it's nice to know what the medal is made of..and it's worth.
Next week in London, athletes from around the world will go for the gold. But as it turns out, the Olympic gold medal is mostly made of silver. the gold medal is made up of only 1.34%, or about 6 grams of gold. The rest is comprised of 93% silver and 6% copper.
