Bruce Springsteen‘s personal trainer Tony Strollo sadly died of undisclosed causes earlier this month at the very young age of 40. And Saturday night, during a club show benefiting Strollo’s family in New Jersey’s famed Asbury Park, The Boss surprised an audience of about 200 people by hopping on stage and performing six songs.

The concert was headlined by Boccigalupe and the Bad Boys, for whom Tony’s brother Michael plays guitar. Twitter reports from those in attendance said Bruce joined them for ‘Soul Man,’ ’867-5309/Jenny,’ ‘Detroit Medley,’ ‘Hold On, I’m Coming,’ ’10th Avenue Freeze-Out’ and ‘Rosalita.’

Strollo, who owned a personal training business in Tinton Falls, N.J. called Professional Fitness, was Springsteen’s trainer during Magic Tour in 2008-2009.

When he’s not doing good deeds like this, Bruce has a busy schedule — he and the E Street Band will perform on both Feb. 27 and Mar. 2 on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.’

Springsteen is also prepping for the Mar. 6 release of his new album, ‘Wrecking Ball,’ a Mar. 15 keynote speech at the SXSW music festival in Austin, TX, and a world tour that kicks off Mar. 18 in Atlanta, GA.
