Bruce Springsteen Week on NBC’s ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ got off to a rousing start last night, with the Boss and the E Street Band performing two songs from their upcoming album, ‘Wrecking Ball.’ the single, ‘We Take Care Of Our Own’ and the title song. ‘Wrecking Ball’ will be released March 6.

Although there was no hair whipping with Fallon as Neil Young this time, Bruce’s presence was felt before he even took the stage. In the opening segment ‘NBC Nightly News’ anchor Brian Williams, who never passes up an opportunity to hang with his fellow Jersey boy, helped out with Fallon’s popular ‘Slow Jam The News’ bit with the Roots.  Fallon also began his interview with his first guest, actress Julianna Margulies, by asking if she had ever been to a Springsteen concert. The ‘Good Wife’ star admitted to having not seen him due to claustrophobia and a fear of being trampled.

Following an interview with ‘American Pie’ star Seann William Scott which offered nothing but anticipation for what was to come, Fallon introduced Bruce and the E Street Band. Somehow, 12 people and their instruments (singers Cindy Mizelle and Curtis King were wedged into a back corner) managed to squeeze onto a stage that was probably smaller than the ones found in the Jersey Shore bars where they cut their teeth. But that didn’t affect the performances at all. If anything, the closeness made the performances even more intense.

Springsteen will make another appearance on Friday, when he will be the show’s only guest, as he was in November 2010 to promote the ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ box set. On Tuesday night’s show, country singer Kenny Chesney will perform ‘Born In The U.S.A.,’ and Elvis Costello will sing ‘Brilliant Disguise’ on Thursday. Monday it was announced that John Legend will sing ‘Dancing in the Dark’ on Wednesday with the Roots backing him up.
