Easter came a bit early at the movies this weekend, thanks to the live-action/animated movie ÔHop.Õ

The film, which features the voice talent of comedian Russell Brand, vastly exceeded expectations at the box office with an impressive $38. 2 million, marking the highest weekend debut of the year.

Coming in at a distant second was the Jake Gyllenhaal vehicle ÔSource Code,Õ about a soldier who continually tries to stop a bomb from exploding on a Chicago-bound train within eight minutes. That movie performed as expected, with $15. 1 million.

In third place was the horror movie ÔInsidious,Õ which did surprisingly well, with $13.5 million. That number is especially impressive, considering the movie cost just $1 million to make.

Rounding out the top 5 this weekend were ÔDiary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,Õ with $10.2 million, and ÔLimitless,Õ with $9.4 million.
