Roy recorded "Blue Angel" on this day in 1960. Roy pioneered an entirely different brand of country/pop-based rock & roll in the early '60s. What he lacked in charisma he made up for in spades with his quavering operatic voice and melodramatic narratives of  love and yearning. In the process, he established rock & roll definitions of the underdog or  the hopelessly romantic loser. Elvis said of Orbison, "he has the most beautiful voice I ever heard." That says it all..
