One of the Twin Ports favorite places to cool off in the summer will be seeing some improvements! Officials with the City of Superior recently unveiled their plans to restore the public beach area at Barkers Island in January and they're excited to share the latest updates.

A public meeting has bee scheduled for Wednesday, April 25 - from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Lake Superior Estuarium:  3 Marina Drive, on Barkers Island In Superior.  At the meeting, officials in charge of the project will share their progress and the plans for the future.

As reported in January, the project to rehabilitate Barkers Island is large in scope.  From a geographic standpoint, the area in question encompasses 6.74 acres of recreational land and 1,400 feet of swimming shoreline.  The plans the city has developed with restore many of those areas, creating a better experience for the public in the process.

The work would be paid for through a variety of grant money and public tax dollars. Already they city has secured the grant money needed and plans are about 30% complete.
