Steve Tanko

I’m a proud life-long resident of the Northland: Born and raised on the Iron Range, I’ve lived in the Twin Ports all of my adult years. I enjoy the fact that we get to enjoy all four seasons and I love the natural beauty that our area provides. I’m worked for the company that owns KOOL 101.7 since 1993 and I enjoy the fact that no two days are ever the same. Although you hear me on the radio during the mid-day shift, my mail role is Production Manager for our stations – writing and producing the commercials you hear. I’m married with one son. In my spare time (what is that?) I enjoy cooking, collecting records (primarily classic country), studying history and politics and being involved in the community on a variety of boards and committees.

Revised Start Date For Oliver Bridge Daily Closures

Although original reports has the Oliver Bridge set to resume the summer daily closure schedule on Monday, April 17 - it appears that that start date has been revised slightly.  According to the flashing data sign that signals drivers on the approach to both sides of the bridge, the start date is now Monday, April 24.

It was a long year for many drivers as the Oliver Bridge saw daily closures from April far into November in 2016.  Now as promised, the closures will return for this summer - although officials are promising a little shorter schedule of work.

MNDOT Uses “Smart Bridge Technology” To Study Defects

Living in the Twin Ports, most of us probably cross one of the two major bridges in the St. Louis River Bay often - if not daily.  Crossing over from one city - and state - is so easy, it's really second nature and we usually don't even think about it.  That is - until something happens.  The 2007 collapse of the I-35 bridge over the Mississippi River in the Twin Cities is fresh enough in our collective mindset.
