Cathy Kates

I'm a Northland girl, born in Cloquet, raised in Wrenshall, and currently living in Duluth. I consider myself lucky to have been able to share my mornings laughing with you for the past 20 years. It's like audio Facebook. I make new friends, but I keep up with old friends too. I set three alarms to get up at 3:10am to do my job, then nap in the afternoon! I am a self-proclaimed multi-tasker (FYI: I am writing my bio, eating breakfast, holding three texting conversations and contemplating what I'll be having for lunch and what to make for dinner ALL right this second). I can't sit still. I even wear a head lamp at campfires so I can cross stitch at the same time. I love puppies, (especially my Schnauzer, Bauer), hot buttered movie theater popcorn, soup, the smell of a lake (especially if I’m fishing in it) and warm fuzzy blankets. I’m a lover, not a fighter, and yes it’s true, I get my hair cut on a weekly basis. I appreciate that you wake up with the B105 Breakfast Club, read and share my blogs and most of all, your friendship through the years! Peace, love and hugs!

U.S. Post Office Apps Give Peace Of Mind And Delivers Holiday Smiles

My sister's birthday is December 19, which is a bummer for me because the gifts I send are in the mix with the holiday packages and take longer than usual to get to her.  More than 16 billion cards, letters, flats and packages are expected to be delivered for the 2016 holiday season. But, they are keeping up on it and even offering delivery notifications and a sweet new way to SEE that your package has been delivered.

View Holiday Lights On Park Point To Help Fund A Wildwood Rehabilitation Fox Enclosure

Residents on Park Point have had to deal with the fox for quite some time.  They have come accustomed to them in their yard, sometimes even naming them.  When I was training for Grandma's Half Marathon on the Point I saw a fox and was freaked until I started to see them more frequently.  The fox on the Point are in trouble and there is a fundraiser this Saturday to help.

UMD Bulldog Banter: A Candid Conversation With Our Men’s Hockey Athletes

I consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to talk with Assistant Coach, Brett Larson for the UMD Bulldog Men's Hockey Team every Thursday at 8:10 during the Bulldog Spotlight thanks to Aire Serv and the Dwight Swanstrom Company.  We decided it would be cool to put each team member in that spotlight, but not for an ordinary interview.  We wanted to learn more about their life off the ice.  This is the first in a series of many that surprised the athletes.

It's a weekend of fundraising for two of the athletic teams of Denfeld High School.  The coolest thing is the both are continuing traditions.  The DHS boys hockey team is supporting the Salvation Army's Adopt-A-Family program and the cheer team will be making another appearance at the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl in Florida.

Bullet Casings That Hang On Our Christmas Tree Have Special Meaning

After visiting a few friend's homes I realized how bare my Christmas tree really is.  There are a few red Christmas balls from my childhood, a few handmade reindeer ornaments that my daughter and I made,  a few snowflakes that my Aunt crocheted and the shell casing Santas in the picture above.  I was feeling like I needed to put more things on the tree until my husband pointed out that everything on the tree had special meaning.  Especially the Santas made out of shell casings.

Footprints In Our Yard Spurred Investigation, Guess Who They Belonged To

Last week I looked out the window to see if it was still snowing and saw the footprints you see in the picture above.  My first thought was what in the world was my husband doing, the footprints made no sense.  I asked him what he was looking for out in the yard and in the wood shed.  He said he hadn't been out in the yard so I brought him to the window to show him the footprints and he immediately went out to investigate.  Can you guess to whom those footprints belonged to?

Wabegon Turns Customer Appreciation Party Into $900 For St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

The Wabegon Bar & Grill has a customer appreciation party every year and this year they decided to make it count for the kids of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  The owner, Paul had tried to do a pasta feed to raise money in the past, but the flood of 2012 cancelled that event.  This first year event was well received and raised a lot of money.

7 Nostalgic Christmas Candies, Do You Remember These?

I loved the Advent calendar that had the little pieces of chocolate behind each window.  I was a pretty simple candy eater as a child, anything with peanut butter and chocolate and I was happy.  I have bought Advent Calendars for my co-host's children and he has left the calendar laying on his desk until the middle of the month!  I tell him he's missing the point, he responds by saying the kids like to open up a week at a time and get more chocolate in one sitting.  UGH!

What Type Of Tree Makes The Best Christmas Tree

If you use a real tree to decorate for Christmas, you may already have a favorite.  Perhaps your fave is based on what your family used when you were a child or the length of the needles that will be holding your precious heirloom ornaments.  Are any trees better than others?  Here's my take after reading about tree types with the National Christmas Tree Association.
