A heads up to drivers who take Grand Avenue/Highway 23 between West Duluth and Gary-New Duluth:  Tuesday, August 2 will see the potential for extra-long delays in the work zone.

As crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation continue their progress in the two-year project, the scope of the work will necessitate the placement of steel beams in the bridge section that crosses Knowlton Creek.  In order to allow the trucks access, it will be necessary at times to stop all vehicle traffic through the area - up to 15 minutes at a time.  Drivers can expect these intermittent 15-minute delays between  the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

In addition, MNDOT reminds drivers that the speed limit along the entire stretch of the work zone - from Becks Road to I-35 - has been reduced to 35 MPH.  (Normally, some sections of this roadway are listed at 45 MPH).

To follow along on the progress of the Grand Avenue/Highway 23 project, visit the work page on MNDOT's website.
