According to a new study, the high divorce rate may have been explained. People are making do with people they meet and let their "true love" slip through the cracks. Love doesn't always mean falling in love.

According to The Daily Mail, 17% of Americans say they met and married the love of their life. More men than women stay and try to make it work. The most shocking to me is the study revealed that 20% of people say they are in love with two people, the one they married and the one they want to be with.

The study also showed that most people fall in love twice in their lifetime. Both men and women are falling in love at the same rate, contrary to stereotypes. 1 in 5 people say they have fallen in love 5 times in their life.

Another thing the study revealed is that the definition of love changed as people got older. Both in a marriage and looking for someone, sometimes that someone satisfies their financial needs.

A spokesperson for Siemens (the company that did the poll)  told The Daily Mail that 'The results showed it can be hard to find "the one" and although the general perception is that women tend to fall in love more often than men, it was intriguing to see that in reality both men and women fall in love on average two times in their life. 'What is alarming is that so many people claim to be in long term relationships or even married to someone who isn't the true love of their life.

Here's the real shocker, 46% of people said they would leave their current partner to be with the love of their life.

I would like to see the study updated with gay and lesbian couples in the mix of the poll now that marriage takes on a new role and society changes.
