Local and state government officials are working together to combat the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species - especially in Lake Vermilion.  As reported last week, inspecting stations have been set up to both educate anglers and look for suspecting species on boats as they leave the water.

A new partnership between two local Lake Vermilion-area businesses and the Sportsmen's Club of Lake Vermilion and St. Louis County have made boat cleaning stations available as well.

The stations are located at the Country Store in Cook and at the Y Store near Tower.  Each will host a new AIS Boat Cleaning Station staffed by trained inspectors.

St. Louis County Commissioner Tom Rukavina offered his thoughts and appreciation for the efforts to combat AIS:

"I want to thank the Sportsmen's Club of Lake Vermilion for their hard work and initiative on this important issue. I’d also like to thank the Bois Forte Band via its Y Store, and The Country Store in Cook for partnering with them and providing boat cleaning stations.  Using grant money from the state, St. Louis County is happy to be able to help fund their efforts, as well as of others doing similar work to protect our waters from AIS, including the North St. Louis County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Burntside Lake Association."
