Bullying is a real issue, I think it’s cool that Wisconsin is starting to make parents take responsibility for their children’s behavior.

It’s sad for me to remember that both of my boys were bullied in school, and the schools really didn't do anything about it. So I like the fact that the cities are starting to make parents accountable.

A first offense is a warning issued to the parents, if the bullying continues after 90 days parents can be fined $366. Another offense in the year and it’ll cost parents another $681. This ordinance involves children using social media or saying things that are vulgar and attempt to hurt or humiliate a classmate.

Of course this doesn’t take into consideration physical bullying, but I do think it’s a step in the right direction to have parents be held accountable for their children’s actions.

Shawano is the latest Wisconsin community to adopt this policy and very similar to those in Plover and Monona communities.
