As we approach Memorial Day, many are taking the time to think about the sacrifices that our men and women in the military have made for our freedoms.  An annual event aims to keep that focus with a spotlight on the charities that benefit servicemen and their families.

CrossFit Duluth presents their 4th annual Memorial Day Murph on Saturday, May 20 - starting at 9:00 AM. An event just for kids 4-14 years of age - the 2nd annual Mini Murph - starts an hour earlier at 8:00 AM.

What is a Murph?  According to documents provided by CrossFit Duluth, the Murph is comprised of the following events:

  • 1 mile run
  • 100 pull ups
  • 200 push ups
  • 300 air squats
  • 1 mile run

....All while wearing a 20-pound weighted vest.

The event pays homage to Lt. Michael Murphy - a Navy SEAL who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005.  Each year, the orgnizers of the Memorial Day Murph choose a charity that specifically benefits service men, women, and their families.  Last year that charity was the 23rd Veteran.

To take part in this years Memorial Day Murph - or the Mini Murph that proceeds it, visit the CrossFit Duluth website or call 218-329-7489.
